Walter Barasa who was accused of tampering with International Criminal Court witnesses in the cases against deputy president William Ruto and Journalist Joshua Sang has said that he should be allowed to surrender to the court in order to clear his name.
Mr Barasa who is now jobless and facing threats in an interview with the Sunday Nation said that he had seen it all since the court issued for the arrest warrant against him.
He said that countless trips to Nairobi to hear his extraction case, being shunned by friends and consultation with his lawyers made him reach the decision.
“Please, let me go to The Hague to clear my name,” he said in a poignant statement as quoted by the nation.
“Following tribulations I have faced since I was indicted by the ICC, I feel the time has come for me to clear my name.”
“I live from hand to mouth. Sometimes I am tempted to sell the little property I have in order to put food on the table. My children are no longer in school,” he added.
His lawyers had discussed with him about the implications of surrendering however they were not aware of his decision to go public on the issue.
“Neither I nor other advocates were aware of his wish to go public on the matter,” Katwa Kigen told the nation.
Mr Barasa is being represented by lawyers Mr Kibe Mungai, Mr Katwa Kigen and Mr Waweru Gatonye.
