Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamtangi has urged MPs pushing for Health Cabinet Secretary Sicily Kariuki removal to drop the impeachment motion.
Wamatangi says that impeaching Kariuki will not provide solutions to issues facing the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).
In an interview on Citizen TV’s breakfast show on Thursday morning, the Jubilee senator said that the impeachment motion against the Health CS has taken a tribal angle meant to intimidate her.
“The MPs sponsoring the motion should halt it because it is being fronted on tribal lines meant to make the CS look bad at the expense of debating serious issues facing KNH,” he said.
The senator said that while the issues surrounding KNH are serious, leaders must keep politics out it.
Over 150 MPs are said to have signed the impeachment motion sponsored by Mandera North MP Bashir Abdullahi to have CS Kariuki sent packing.
The legislators want Kariuki sent packing on grounds that she did not follow outlined guidelines in suspending KNH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lily Koros two weeks ago.
The KNH CEO was sent on compulsory leave after a surgery mix up was reported at the hospital on March 9.
The National Assembly Health Committee has since recommended for the disbandment of the KNH board.
