President Uhuru Kenyatta is not a happy man after Kenyans gave a wide berth to his Jamhuri Day ceremony at Kasarani.

Uhuru has demanded to know from the organisers of national celebrations why the Tuesday fete was poorly attended despite being the first he was marking in his second term  in office.

Earlier, Jubilee MPs accused Interior Affairs Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho of the poor attendance saying that he failed to mobilise Kenyans to attend the event.

However, the ministry’s spokesman Mwenda Njoka said the blame fell on Nairobi regional coordinator.

On his part, Nairobi governor Mike Sonko was quick to throw the blame on the provincial administration saying the event was a responsibility of county commissioners.

“Offices of the regional and county commissioners are usually responsible for organising State events in their areas of jurisdiction,” said Mr Njoka.

"During national day celebrations, the government depends on them to mobilise the people to attend. They would also organise troupes to perform and entertain guests during the celebrations,” he added.
