The number of leaders who have joined forces to push for Wiper Party Patron Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka to be named NASA flag bearer shows Ukambani is an opposition’s stronghold. Wavinya Ndeti beating Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua is not a far-fetched dream.

First and foremost, Jubilee party will field a candidate against Mutua. Mutua and Jubilee aspirant will divide their votes. This means that the governor will lose some of his supporters to the ruling party.

Secondly, Wiper is likely to win more MP seats in the county than any other party.  Each of the MPs will bring Wavinya Ndeti a good number of votes. Similarly, Wiper will have more Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) after the August polls. If each of the MCAs brings his or her basket of votes Mutua will be in for a rude shock.

Thirdly, Mutua is contesting through Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement, which is yet to deepen its roots in this part of the country. The defection of Wavinya Ndeti to Wiper has made more popularity in the region. Wiper is the dominant party in the area and residents are likely to vote for the candidate the political outfit will front for governorship.

Fourth, Wavinya is popular. The outspoken leader gave Mutua a run for his money in the last general polls. With the support of Kalonzo,  Mutua will have a tough day.

Fifth, if Kalonzo is named NASA flag bearer, Mutua will find it hard to market his agenda in Ukambani. Residents of this part of the nation have dreamed of Presidency for years hence they are likely to back leaders supporting Kalonzo.

Sixth, Kalonzo promised to teach Mutua a lesson. The former vice president will camp in various areas of Ukambani to ensure Mutua does not retain his seat.
