Early Christians had many arguments as to when this day should be celebrated.

Christmas was first celebrated on December 25 in the year 336, during the time of the Roman Emperor Constantine (the first Christian Roman Emperor).

''A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared that the birth of Jesus would be celebrated on December 25,'' quotes 'whychristmas'.

There are many different traditions and theories as to why Christmas is celebrated on December 25th.

Early Christian tradition said that the day when Mary was told by angel Gabriel that she would have a very special baby called Emmanuel (God with us), was on March 25.

Nine months after the said date, is December 25, making it an automatic annual celebration, as Jesus' birthday, which is 'Christmas'.
