He had earlier enlisted himself among the opposers of the constitutional amendment fronted by opposition leader Raila Odinga's quarters, terming it unneeded, urging Kenyans to shoot down the attempt should it culminate into a poll.

The sudden change of mind is most likely as a result of the realization that he was being sidelined by his fellow leaders within the National Super Alliance (NASA) block, following Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo Musyoka's endorsement of the same.

Coming from the pre-dominantly opposition-allied Western Kenya region, a hard stand was going to cost him in his presidential ambition as it would link him with Deputy President William Ruto, another opposer of the referendum.

This would render him a traitor among his own people and, therefore, a hard-sell to Kenyans, forcing him to shelve his bid years before the much anticipated 2022 race or face a terrible loss.

The leader who had earlier vowed to punish Odinga over the recent internal wrangles within NASA could also be using  the endorsement to get back together with the veteran politician as his threats have proved futile so far and could soon be subjected to mockery for failing to realize the threats.

Lastly, being a politician, he might have identified a chance for him and his people to benefit in the proposed setup, considering that it entails the expansion of the executive and being among the senior leaders in the country, could be anticipating something should the proposal sail through.
