That there is a strong bond between the Kenyatta family and the Moi family is as open as a cloudless sky. Uhuru Kenyatta enjoys a warm relationship with his political Godfather, Daniel Toroitich arap Moi.
When Uhuru decides to meet Mzee Moi, it should not raise any eye brows. It is expected to be a normal friendly chat between a father and a son.
The above assertion would hold water were it not for a similar meeting between Jomo Kenyatta and Daniel Moi back in the 7O's.
It widely thought in many circles that Kenyatta called Moi one day before his demise and made an agreement with him that he should one day hand over power to one of his sons when he finally retires himself.
In 2002, President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi literally installed Uhuru as the K.A.N.U Presidential candidate against the odds of other formidable candidates like George Saitoti and Raila Odinga. This led to a serious fall out in K.A.N.U that saw it lose to Mwai Kibaki in the elections.
They always say that history repeats itself. I feel that the Moi-Uhuru meeting has everything to do with succession politics. Moi may be keen to cut a deal for his son, Gideon, in the post-Uhuru era.
As it stands, there is more to this meeting that comes a day to the Maraga ruling and one man, William Ruto, must pull his political antennae a few metres higher.
