Wiper Democratic Movement Party has unveiled former Machakos county government Education Chief Officer Jackson Kala as Senator Johnstone Muthama's replacement ahead of the August polls.
Speaking on Wednesday, Wiper's National Elections Board chairperson Agatha Solitei revealed that it was impossible for the party to lack a senatorial candidate in Machakos county following the defection of outspoken Senator Johnstone Muthama from the party.
“The deadline for all political parties to submit their candidates to the IEBC was Wednesday," she said in a telephone interview with the Star Newspaper.
“I know there are some leaders who might have tried to reach out to Muthama but our mandate as a board was to ensure the party had candidates for at least all positions,'' she added.
Kala has since welcomed the nomination, promising to fill up Muthama's shoes.
“All I can tell my supporters is that we are ready for this. The party leader has assured me we will go door to door to ensure we deliver this seat to the party again," Kala noted during a media briefing on Wednesday.
Muthama quit Wiper Party on Monday, citing injustice and lack of democracy within the party.
