Several women turned up for the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) recruitment exercise, especially in Nanyuki.
The officials who were in charge of the exercise seeking to hire specialist officers, however, locked out over 90 women from the race.
The recruiting officers said they were only looking for male recruits.
Lt. Colonel Samuel Mayenga, the head of the KDF recruitment in Nanyuki, said that at least 500 youths turned up for the exercise, which is expected to end on June 14, 2017.
He defended the move to bar women from taking part in the exercise.
“We pick women based on how we had planned. According to plans that we had for Laikipia East sub-county, we were only going to pick men in the recruitment. There are some sub- counties where we will pick women and there are those that we won’t,” he said, as reported by edaily.
