According to a report published in the Standard, the CA has directed mobile operators to deactivate unregistered and partially registered SIM cards with immediate effect.

Agent

If you want to register your SIM card, you will need to visit a mobile operator agent. There are thousands of Safaricom agents, Telkom agents, and Airtel agents distributed all over the country.

Requirements for registration

When visiting an agent for registration, you need to carry your original Identification card. The agent will use your ID card to extract such information as your date of birth and ID number and full official names.

You will also be required to provide your physical address and postal address.

Security purposes

The main reason why the government is serious about this issue of registering SIM cards is to curb cases of conmen using their mobile phones to con the public. You have probably received a text message from an unknown number telling you to send some money to a certain number. During recruitment of police, many people have always been conned to send money to book their places only to cry foul later.
