For those that have ever contemplated becoming a vegetarian, this may even motivate you even more. There are a mix of health and environmental reasons as to why one should significantly reduce on their consumption of red meat. Here are a few reasons why you should maybe swap that beef steak for a salad.
It hardens blood vessels. Carnitine which is a component found in red meat has been linked to atherosclerosis-the hardening or clogging of arteries. Studies have also shown that carnitine can significantly increase the chances of contracting cardiovascular diseases. Every now and then swap red meat with white meat or try taking a fruit instead.
Shortens life span. According to studies conducted the Harvard School of Public health red meat is believed to reduce ones lifespan. It is therefore advisable that you eat foods like nuts, fish, legumes which can help you live longer. Vegetarians are known to live longer then those who consume red meat over long periods of time.
Can contract diseases like E.coli. E.coli depends on the number of cows making up your red meat. The more cows used to make the meat the higher your chances of contracting diseases such as e.coli. The disease is known to cause kidney failure, and dehydration. The only way of knowing how many cows went to making your meat is by asking the butcher and even then you can't be too sure.
