The Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) has signed a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the Kenya Union of Domestic, Hotels, Educational Institutions, Hospitals and Allied Workers (KUDHEIHA).
According to the Hospital's Chief Executive Officer Dr. Wilson Aruasa, the signing of the CBA is a win for staff, patients, and Kenya as a whole.
The CBA runs from 2017-2021
"The CBA covers all workers' matters and it emphasizes on dialogue, negotiations, mediations and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms in resolving any differences that might arise between workers and the employer,” said Dr. Aruasa during the signing of the CBA on Tuesday.
"We are focused on staff welfare. Even at the Hospital Board level, we have renamed the Human Resource and Capacity Development Committee to People Management Committee," he added.
Dr. Aruasa said the CBA involved all parties’ right from the national Treasury, Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) and Ministry of Health.
He lauded the CBA as a progressive one saying the Hospital's Management was committed to Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, mediation being one of them.
The Deputy Secretary-general of KUDHEIHA Samson Kioko on his part expressed sincere gratitude to the MTRH boss for his support throughout the negotiation process.
He noted that they negotiated with no interference whatsoever. The CBA will now be presented to the Employment & Labour Relations Court for registration.
