A middle-aged woman Sunday morning stormed into Thika police station crying for justice for the death of her husband who was shot dead by unknown gunmen in Thika town on Saturday morning.

Caroline Waweru Githinji, 24, whose husband was the bread winner stormed the station with family members requiring answers from the police department on why they took more than 30 minutes to reach the scene and allowed the bandits to escape.

The deceased, 28-year-old Peter Githinji was a driver in Thika and was shot dead in broad daylight on Saturday by armed robbers who escaped with more than Ksh200,000 from one of the passengers on board.

The widow blamed the area police officers for the death of her husband alleging that the police are absconding their role to tame insecurity in the area.

She claimed that if only the police were at the scene on time they could have apprehended the armed robbers who killed her husband for unknown reasons.

“The police are neglecting their duties and if only the gunmen were apprehended on time it would have reduce the pain and agony I am feeling right now,” she expressed.

“Yes it will not bring the father of my one-year-old daughter back to life but it will feel great and reduce the worry knowing the culprits are rotting in jail,” she added with pain.

She argued that how come the thugs were able to identify the person carrying the money so easily and why was he transporting such huge amount of money without police escort.

She expressed her concerns and alleged that the robbery was an inside job and the passenger who was on board possessing the huge amount of money was in cahoots with the bandits.

The wife together with relatives were however contained by the area police officers led by Thika West OCS Benjamin Kiprono who said that the manhunt of the thugs have been launched and appealed to anyone who has information about the whereabouts of the gunmen to get in touch with authority.

Kiprono promised that they will not succumb to defeat until the thugs are brought to books and however denied the allegations of neglecting their duties.
