The late Joseph Nkaissery died without uttering a word, Hellen, the widow has revealed.

She broke her silence on the general’s last moments to a group of mourners who had gone to condole with her at their Karen home.

Among the mourners were Baringo Senator and Kanu chairman Gideon Moi.

Mrs Nkaissery said they prayed together with her late husband at around 11:30pm Friday, and the late followed her to bed shortly.

“He prayed as he always did and I slept,” she said. Tragedy struck moments later. “After about 20 minutes, I felt a sound as if something had knocked the side of the bed. I checked and found he had fallen off the bed,” said the widow, as reported by The Standard.

“I called the askaris who rushed into our bedroom. My back was aching from my effort to lift him up,” she said.

Nkaissery was then rushed to Karen Hospital, about five minutes away, where he was pronounced dead.

According to his wife, the fallen general did not utter a word before he died.

“He went without saying a word, not even goodbye. He never whispered that he was in pain. He died like a soldier,” she said.

Pathologists on Monday ruled out foul play in the death of Mr Nkaissery and said he died of a heart attack.

Private pathologists Bessie Byakika and Andrew Gachie, as well as Dr Johansen Oduor, the government’s chief pathologist, conducted a six-hour postmortem examination to find the cause of Maj-Gen (Rtd) Nkaissery’s death.

The autopsy was done in the presence of family members and four other doctors, including one from the Government Chemist.

Director of Medical Services Jackson Kioko was also present.
