Paul Wafula denied the charges before magistrate Lucy Gitari for the offence is said to have committed on May 20 in Kondele.

The court heard that the accused attacked his wife after she returned home late from a casual job. The two are said to have been going through marital difficulties over the recent weeks.

Wafula is accused of attacking the wife with a metal rod before neighbours intervened and separated the two.

His wife, Annet Akinyi, was taken to hospital where she was advised to report the matter to the police after her treatment.

The matter was reported at the Kondele police station and investigations were launched into the matter, leading to the arrest of the accused.

The prosecution applied that the accused be remanded for two weeks to facilitate investigation of another assault case Wafula is said to have been involved in.

The magistrate, however, declined to remand the accused on the grounds that the two cases were separate and not tied.

Wafula was released on a cash bail of Sh5,000 with surety of a similar amount pending the hearing on June 17, 2015.
