Police in Kakamega have launched a manhunt for three armed men who are said to have killed Mumias Sugar Company legal officer Ronald Lubya.

The gangsters, who are said to have been dressed in camouflage uniforms similar to those worn by police, struck on Sunday night, shooting Lubya, who died while receiving treatment at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Western region police coordinator Moses Ombati said the men abandoned a stolen vehicle at Kabula market, on the Mumias-Bungoma Road.

According to the victim’s wife, Mrs Josephine Lubya, the attackers waylaid her husband when he left the house to answer a call of nature.

“One of the robbers walked into the kitchen and warned he would shoot me if I raised the alarm,” she said.

The attackers then ransacked the house for valuables, stealing a laptop and other documents before escaping using the family car.

They robbers are said to have gained entry into the compound after cutting through a fence, and patiently waited for time to attack.

Once they gained entry into the house, one of the gangsters went to the kitchen and ordered her to lie down without a sound.

“They told me they had finished with my husband and if I didn’t comply, they would shoot me dead,” she tearfully narrated.

They then tortured her husband, who by now was lying in a pool of blood.

“They ate the food I had prepared for our dinner before they left in our car with the stolen electronic gadgets,” she said.
