43-year-old Hernandez Atehourtua Maria, wife of Garden City tycoon, allegedly took her own life on the morning of Wednesday, May 16, at her home in Muthangari, Nairobi.
Maria ended her life inside their house at Muhoya Gardens at around 7.30 am.
Her 47-year-old husband, a British citizen, had reportedly left the house shortly to escort their children to school.
When Coulsin returned about 15 minutes later, he did not find Maria where he had left her.
He however noticed a few moments later that she was in the bathroom, though she had overstayed there.
This prompted him to go and check on her.
On realising there was no response from the bathroom, Coulsin was forced to get a spare key and on opening the door, he found his wife hanging on the rope which was tied around her neck.
Coulsin immediately called the Bhogal, their private doctor, who confirmed Maria was already dead.
Police visited the scene moments later and moved the body to Lee funeral home where it is awaiting postmortem.
Both the police and the husband said that the deceased never left any suicide note.
The husband and the neighbours told the police that Maria had been suffering depression for a long time and some believed that mental illness could have driven her to commit suicide.
Coulsin, however, clarified that Maria had never attempted to end life nor even confiding in anyone of ending her life.
The detectives marked the bathroom as a potential crime scene as investigation kicked off.
