My husband is a mid-earning man in the standards of our side of Nairobi. We’ve been in marriage for the last seven years and we are lucky to have two kids, a daughter and a son. Last year, he began getting home late. At first I thought he was beginning to drink, though I didn’t have any evidence. At some point he began getting home in the wee hours of morning and on some days he never came back home at all. It has not been until recently that I knew what the problem was. He is part of a group involved in criminal operations. Recently there was a criminal activity which one person died. My husband came home and with evidence, I asked him and he told me the truth.

I am devastated and don’t know what to do. I’ve thought about leaving the marriage but then I think of the two kids. If I report him to police, it will still be worse for our family. What do I do since I don’t want to be part of his evils yet I still want him?

Eve.

Dear Eve

Sorry for your plight. Without wasting time, I will go straight to the answer.

If your husband goes out to rob, what are the risks? Are you happy that you and your two kids are eating food and dressing cloths soaked in the blood and sweat of other innocent humans?

If one day he goes on a mission and it is intercepted by police, don’t you think you will lose him immediately?

By resorting to crime, your good husband already chose jail or death, both of which mean that he doesn’t care about you since he is ready to leave you to raise the family alone. If he can’t agree to stop, that’s your only avenue to leave the marriage. Salvage all you can and start taking care of your family now because that is what the world will force you to do very soon.

If you want to have him alive, report him to police today.
