President Uhuru Kenyatta has nominated Wafula Chebukati for the position of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman.
If approved by Parliament, Chebukati, a trained lawyer and High Court advocate, will succeed the outgoing electoral body chairman Issack Hassan.
Chebukati and Tunai ole Kina were nominated a week ago by Bernadette Musundi-led selection panel.
The Head of State also nominated six other for the positions of IEBC Commissioners. They are: Consolata Nkatha Bucha, Boya Molu, Dr Roselyn K. Akombe, Ambassador Paul Kurgat, Margaret Wanjala Mwachanya and Professor Abdi Guliye.
In a statement released to newsrooms late Thursday evening, Statehouse Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu said President Kenyatta has forwarded the names to Parliament for vetting.
The change of guard at the polls body was precipitated by the Opposition who took to the streets to demand for the removal of the team that administrated the 2013 polls, saying they were incapable of properly managing the forthcoming 2017 General Election.
