Some residents in Kibera say they are finding it hard to walk to the voter registration centres due to their tight work schedules.
For this reason, residents in Kibera have questions in their mind as to whether the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) will set registration centres at work places, churches and other social places to help many people register.
Speaking in an interview at his work place, James Mwaura, a Kibera resident said locals might not get the time to register since they spend most of their time at work and their bosses may not give them free days to go and register.
“I work from 7:00 am to 6:30 pm, Monday to Sunday and this is because of the work at the workshop. Even getting time to do cleaning or go to church is so limited. I feel that I might not get that time to visit a registration centre,” said James Mwaura, a welder at Kenyatta market.
Another Kibera resident, Samuel Manyura, said that the voter registration centres should be set everywhere so that people can be registered in large numbers.
“Some people rest on Saturdays and others on Sundays so they may not make it to the centres. IEBC should look for a way to bring the exercise to markets where people are doing business and offices,” urged Manyura.
