Jubilee Party is set to sacrifice a top gubernatorial aspirant in Nyamira County to avoid future defections and subsequently minimise chances of the ODM winning the seat, a source privy to the ongoing deal has confirmed.
The party is facing a major dilemma with former Kitutu Masaba MP Walter Nyambati and businessman Charles Mochama engaging in fierce political battles to win the party ticket.
According to the source, top Jubilee leadership is crafting a formula that will see Mochama get a State appointment to allow the party to focus more on winning the seat.
“There is a discussion going on at the top level and a major announcement will be made soon. The party is keen on winning the gubernatorial seat and that is why one candidate will be sacrificed,” said the source.
“Mochama is likely to get a State appointment and allow Nyambati to face the ODM team. It’s only a matter of time that the announcement is made and that is the reality at the moment,” the source added.
Neither Mochama nor Nyambati could confirm or deny the emerging revelations as none picked calls from this writer but the East African Legislative Assembly member Joseph Kiangoi said Jubilee will do all it takes to beat ODM.
“Jubilee is only focusing on winning the seat and I cannot really confirm the revelations but all I know is that we are heading somewhere and the seat must be taken from ODM,” he said.
In ODM, the battle for the ticket will be between the incumbent Governor John Nyagarama and West Mugirango MP James Gesami.
