When Mohamed Ali left the newsroom where he had made a name for himself to join politics, he did not know he was making a big gamble in his search for greener pastures.

Ali's political journey has so far been bumpy and as the August 8 elections inch closer, his path may even become littered with thorns which may dim his bid for the Nyali MP seat. After losing in the ODM nominations, he opted to vie as an independent candidate. However, his troubles may be far from over as another potential career defining hurdle lies ahead - fighting the ODM six-piece wave.ODM, which is the most dominant party in the region, has repeatedly asked their supporters in the county to embrace the infamous six-piece voting pattern during the August polls.Earlier, Governor Hassan Joho who is undoubtedly the region's political supremo had asked the locals to reject all independent candidates in the county. A week later, the ODM top brass including Raila Odinga who is the party leader rubber stamped Joho's position. To make things worse, the former KTN investigative journalist has no financial muscle to mount a serious campaign as compared to his fiercest rivals.Despite Ali's spirited campaigns on the ground, his candidature has been thrown into a spin and his fate at the ballot is now at the mercy of the voters.Should they heed to the six-piece call, then Ali would have made a false start to his political life.
