Speaking when the DP toured Kirinyaga and Murang'a counties on Friday, the leaders denied there was a plot to frustrate Ruto's presidential ambition.

"I want to tell those claiming that Central leaders are having night meetings to sabotage Ruto's presidential bid to shut up and concentrate on their regions' politics. As Mt Kenya leaders we are behind our able DP," said Murang'a Women Representative Sabina Chege.

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko recently warned Ruto not to bank on the populous Mt Kenya region vote, claiming local leaders were plotting to front another candidate to take over from President Uhuru Kenyatta.

But Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria dismissed the claims, saying the Jubilee Deputy party leader will get massive support from the region.

“As leaders of Central Kenya, we are all set and come 2022 we will, be at the frontline in campaigning for you (Ruto) because of your scorecard,” said Iria.

Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wa told Ruto to continue touring all parts of the country to widen his political base despite criticism that he had started early campaigns.

“Your Excellency, you must continue to tour all parts of our country to help initiate development projects. Just ignore those criticizing your tours because they have lost touch with the reality,” Ichung’wa stated.

On his part, the DP William Ruto urged politicians to refrain from conversations about the politics of the 2022 elections and instead concentrate on serving the electorate.
