Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has dismissed claims that he is eyeing to succeed governor Alfred Mutua in 2022.
Speaking to journalists in Kangundo Town on Saturday, Muthama said that he has no plans of contesting for the Machakos gubernatorial seat in 2022 or any other time.
The former senator said he has other ambitions and vying for the Machakos seat is not part of it.
He said that he is happy serving the people and Kenyans as a member of the NASA People's Assembly committee that is pushing for electoral reforms.
"I have bigger political plans and succeeding governor Alfred Mutua is not part of the plan," he said.
The former Kangundo MP said that his focus now is to help achieve electoral reforms and justice in the country.
He said that it will be pointless contesting and taking part in elections if electoral fraud, impunity, and manipulation is still the order of the day.
Muthama who did not contest for any seat in last year's general elections said Kenyans have to unite and join hands in pushing for electoral reforms.
Muthama is among vocal politicians supporting and pushing the NASA reforms agenda.
Last week, he reaffirmed NASA commitment to pursue electoral justice and reforms.
There have been claims that Muthama could contest for Machakos governor seat in 2022 after governor Alfred Mutua's terms come to an end.
Mutua is serving his second and last term and has expressed interest in the presidential seat in 2022.
