Recently, Jubilee Party held a National Governing Council meeting in Nairobi and top on the agenda was the unveiling of the party's 2017 campaign team.

Every region had its share of representation in the team whose constitution, albeit, in some quotas, was not well received.

All politicians from Coast who ditched opposition parties and joined JP will be expected to play a role in marketing the ruling party ahead of the polls.

They included Gideon Mung’aro (Kilifi North) Zainab Chidzunga (Kilifi County Women Rep), Mustafa Iddi (Kilifi South) and Masoud Mwahima (Likoni).

Whereas Kilifi County, in Coast region, had a sizable representation among those who joined JP, Mombasa produced only one candidate- Likoni MP Masoud Mwahima.

Mwahima, will however, play a peripheral role in the campaigns as those at the centre in steering the campaign work in the region are Taveta MP Naomi Shaaban, Kwale County Woman Representative Zainab Chidzuga and former MP Danson Mungatana

Mwahima, everyone knows, has been in politics for long- starting from the time he was elected councilor during the Kanu regime and subsequently Mayor, Mombasa.

But how well positioned is he to marshal support for Jubilee?

Mwahima, since declaring allegiance to Jubilee in early 2016 has faced immense opposition not only from his constituency but across Mombasa County.

He is from a devolved unit represented by Governor Hassan Joho who of recent has proved can marshal support for any politician who endears him/herself to him.

The fact that he currently commands almost 100 percent support in the county will make it difficult for Mwahima to market Jubilee in Mombasa.

All the six MPs from Mombasa were elected through Cord affiliate parties and five of them have remain loyal to ODM party leader Raila Odinga.

So will Mwahima manage to overpower and outfox Omar Mwinyi (Changamwe), Badi Twalib (Jomvu), Rashid Bedzimba (Kisauni), Hezron Awiti (Nyali) and Abdullswamad Nassir (Mvita) to harvest votes for Jubilee?

This, I doubt.

He might have the financial muscle (from Jubilee's deep pockets) that he may use to try to bolster support for the ruling coalition, but at the end of the day Cord or the yet to be constituted and launched National Super Alliance will carry the day.

Coast voters have stuck with the opposition as they believe opposition chief Raila Odinga is best placed to solve their problem - mainly historical land injustices.

Mwahima, should prepare to fall with a big bang politically in 2017.
