Barely a day after police disrupted a demonstration organised by Cord principals to storm the the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission offices, the commission has reiterated its commitment to delivering its mandate independently, further insisting that they will not be intimidated in anyway.
In a statement to newsrooms on Monday evening, the commission's communication manager Andrew Limo noted that IEBC was a constitutionally recognised body serving the interests of over 40 million Kenyans and few individuals would not make them be cowed.
According to Limo, Cord was aware of the mode of appointment and removal of any IEBC commissioner and approaching the issue using Cord's style was primitive and demeaning.
"Cord is one of our clients and cannot force us to bow to their demands, if they believe their demands are genuine, they know of the right protocol they should follow," read the statement in part.
Limo further accused Cord of hindering their service delivery basing on their verdict on the Okoa Kenya drive and insisted that the verdict was not political but based on facts.
Cord principals led by Raila Odinga insist that the commission has lost its credibility and wants it disbanded fearing that the country risks plunging into other skirmishes as witnessed in 2007.
