President Uhuru will lead the nation in marking June 1 at Afraha stadium for the national celebrations.

But as the preparations go on, the ODM Nakuru branch party has its own plans.

The party branch plans to hold peaceful demos every Monday in solidarity with their counterparts in Nairobi in pushing for the disbandment of the IEBC.

Cord has vowed to hold weekly protests every Monday in its quest to send the IEBC commissioners packing, but Jubilee insists the constitution should be upheld in sacking the IEBC chiefs.

Nakuru is a Jubilee zone and the ODM has only one seat in the county, Nakuru Town West but whose MP Samuel Arama has since jumped ship.

It is also one of the counties that bore the brunt of the 2007-08 post election violence, and anything that would rekindle such memories would be shunned at all costs.

Some of the former PEV internally displaced persons have urged Cord co-principals - Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula- to cease the demos or else they would travel to Nairobi to hold counter-protests at the leaders’ homes.

Already, Kanu which could have given voice to the protests has distanced itself with Nakuru officials saying secretary general Nick Salat acted in his personal capacity when he joined Cord leaders Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka nd Moses Wetangula last Monday to protest.

But while announcing the plans on Tuesday last week, ODM branch chairman Dennis Okomol said they are now ready to join their counterparts in sending home the commissioners.

Okomol said the call to have the commissioners resign was in the interest of Kenyans.

“We affirm our support to our principals and the entire Kenyan people that IEBC commissioners must resign now to allow free, fair and peaceful elections in 2017 since Kenyans are tired of election rigging,” he added.

What remains to be seen is if the protests will in the first place kick off and if they do, how the turnout be. Will the leaders say they have achieved their goal?
