We cannot overemphasize the value of education.

The value of education can only be determined if the Kenyan child is given an opportunity to learn.

Despite the fact that the government can boast of increased enrollment in most Kenyan schools, it is shocking to realise that learning does not take place in most of these schools.

Anyone who values education will shed tears after knowing that over a third of children in lower classes lack numeracy and literacy skills.

Do parents have anything to smile about?

The government has concentrated so much in ensuring that there is increased enrolment and completion of education, which is a good thing. However, we need to do something about the outcome.

It does not make sense to complete school and come out without knowledge. Is it all about good grades?

Although it is the desire of all parents to see their sons and daughters emerging from schools with straight A’s, most of them do not have the skills to secure their dream jobs.

I am sorry to say that a good fraction of youth moving up and down the streets crying for jobs does not have the required skills.

There is no employer who is ready to hire someone without the right qualifications.

This is clear from the fact that some employers do not want to recruit graduates from certain universities because majority of them do not meet the required standards.

As much as we fight to overhaul the education system we need to know that the problem is not with the structure or content. The fact remains that teachers somewhere are not doing their job.
