Former Likoni MP and Kibaki-era Minister Suleiman Shakombo is faced with a monumental task to rediscover his lost political glory.After losing three elections on the trot, the once powerful Minister is at crossroads on whether to hang his political boots or make another attempt yet again.A key cog in former President Mwai Kibaki's controversial re-election in 2007, Shakombo's decision to stick with Kibaki at a time when the Coast region had rebelled against him is continuing to haunt him.First, despite being a Minister, Shakombo lost his seat to little-known Masoud Mwahima of ODM, the most popular party in the region. The loss marked his fall from glory to grass and political life has never been the same again.His attempt to make a political comeback in 2013 suffered another setback as he lost yet again to his political nemesis Mwahima. He spent the next four years in the political cold hoping to put his past humiliation on the ballot behind him in 2017.Ahead of the August 8 poll, Shakombo re-invented his political trajectory by joining ODM.However, his dalliance with the Raila-led party was short-lived as he quickly jumped to Wiper, a NASA affiliate party.Just as it had happened in the previous two elections, Shakombo lost again but this time around to Mishi Mboko of ODM. He finished third in the race, behind second-placed Mwahima.With political nomadism having defined his checkered political career, he made another political move by joining Jubilee Party and backed President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election during the October 26 poll.Whatever happens, Shakombo's political future is pegged on Uhuru's next move.Should he be appointed for a government job, then the former lawmaker would have been given a political lifeline.
