Kabogo announced that he was joining the Kiambu gubernatorial race as an independent candidate after losing the nomination to his bitter rival Ferdinand Waititu.
Kabogo claimed that he was rigged out, with Waititu colluding with the returning officer to stuff ballot boxes and import voters. However, he points to a higher force within the party for being behind this, pushing for him to leave politics.
This has been because of the 2022 succession politics with many from the Mt. Kenya seeing as a possible candidate to replace the present President Uhuru Kenyatta.
All fingers point to the Deputy President William Ruto, who has declared he will be running for the presidency after Kenyatta finishes his two terms. With Kabogo in the race, spells doom for Ruto thus the need to have Kabogo out of politics before 2022.
When appearing at Radio Maisha in the morning show interview, Kabogo was pressed to confirm his friendship with the Deputy President, but he was elusive of the question.
He said that Ruto was his friend, but further explained that there are many types of friends. Pushed further to expound on the different types of friends he was referring to, he it laughed off and avoided the question completely.
