Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga has been dealt a blow after another MP opted to defect to Jubilee.
Taita Taveta Women Representative Joyce Lay who has declared interest in the regions senatorial race, joined the Uhuru Kenyatta-led party which has been pitching tent in the Coast region in a bid to strengthen its base. According to the The Star, Taveta MP Naomi Shaban and Kenya Ports Authority Board Chairman Marsden Madoka are the masterminds behind Lay’s defection. This comes after the duo vowed to drum up support in Taita Taveta to ensure Uhuru retains power come August. Speaking after her defection, Lay said time has come for her to park her political belongings and join development oriented leaders.Deputy President William Ruto is said to have also played an immense role in the political twist being witnessed at the Coast. Ruto said Coast residents are tired of opposition’s propaganda adding that they are ready to back Jubilee’s re-election.
This comes after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho's deputy Hazel Katana defected to UhuRuto's side.
