Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has canceled a meeting to discuss joint nominations with other parties’ affiliated to the National Super Alliance (NASA to calm down speculations on the standoff in the alliance.
Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula also postponed the talks during the last minute. The cancellation of the meetings comes a few days after Kalonzo summoned his party’s its National Executive Committee members to discuss the rules to govern the primaries that have already been submitted to the Registrar of Political Parties only to cancel the meeting over the lack of quorum.
A number of opposition leaders have expressed different opinions over joint nomination with some terming it as a plot to lock them out of the August polls by political party bigwigs.
Amani National Congress (ANC) has backed the idea of joint nomination saying that it will not weaken the alliance as alleged.
“I would want to ask NASA supporters not be worried because what is going on is just a debate on the best approach to take. No party fears a joint nomination process. We are all ready as coalition partners,” said Mudavadi, as quoted by Standard.
A section of Wiper politicians led by Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan have insisted they are not ready for joint nominations.
