Wiper party has defended the nomination of Kennedy Musyoka, eldest son to the party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, to the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Addressing the press on Thursday, Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana who spoke on behalf of the party said Musyoka emerged the best among other eight candidates who had applied for the post.

“He was the best candidate among the eight who applied. Five came for the interview," Kibwana said.

Kibwana noted it is wrong to deny someone a chance yet they have all the qualifications required.

"We cannot overlook someone's constitutional rights and yet he is qualified," he added.

On Sunday, National Assembly majority leader Aden Duale accused ODM leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo of favouring their family members to apply for the EALA posts. This is after reports indicated Raila’s brother, Oburu Odinga and Kalonzo’s son Kennedy, had applied for the slots.

Oburu however refuted the claims of nepotism and opted out of the race.
