Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka-led party has denied endorsing former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti to contest for the Machakos Governorship seat in the forthcoming general polls.

Secretary General Hassan Omar said that the party will conduct nominations before presenting a candidate to battle it out with Machakos Governor Dr Alfred Mutua in August.

“Any perception being created that the party was interested in giving Ms Ndeti a direct nomination will be dealt with today precisely,” said Mr Omar. The Mombasa senator also said that both the candidates are expected to take part in the exercise.

He added: “It was resolved that the primaries be held today (Sunday). We do realise that two candidates are participating that is Wavinya Ndeti and Bernard Kiala.”

When asked whether Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama has intentions of defecting from Wiper Party, Omar said that he does not want to comment on the matter until he gets facts right.

“I have enormous respect for him and I think I cannot speak much on his behalf. Mr Muthama has been one of my greatest defenders and my prayer is that he would continue to serve Wiper Party and Kenyans as Machakos Senator in the most robust and aggressive way,” he said.
