Led by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui, the Wiper Express members pushing for Kalonzo’s candidature in NASA distanced themselves from Nyenze’s remarks.
Addressing the press at Parliament Building in Nairobi on Thursday, the Wiper Express members said that Kalonzo is in NASA to stay.
“We (Wiper) are not part of the remarks made by Nyenze that Kalonzo will bolt out of NASA if he is not endorsed as flag bearer,” said Mbui.
The Kathiani lawmaker stated that Nyenze was speaking for himself and that his views are not that of the Wiper Party.
Mbui stated that Kalonzo is in NASA to stay and no amount of speculation will make him ditch the alliance.
“We want to assure our supporters that Kalonzo and the larger Kamba community is in NASA,” said Machakos Woman Representative Dr Susan Musyoka who spoke at the briefing.
Dr Musyoka said that NASA’s rivals are feeling threatened ahead of the August 8 polls.
“We know our competitors are afraid of NASA and are ‘cooking’ information to insinuate that Kalonzo is not in NASA,” she said.
Dr Musyoka said that NASA’s unity will send Jubilee government packing in the August 8 polls.
Mavoko MP Patrick Makau who spoke at the briefing said that Kambas will not be coerced out of NASA.
He said that Kalonzo is committed in NASA whether he gets the flag bearer or not.
On Tuesday, Nyenze gave NASA principals seven days to name its flag bearer failure to which Wiper Party will bolt out of the alliance.
Nyenze further claimed that Kalonzo will not be in NASA if he is not endorsed.
Nyenze’s remarks have elicited speculations on the possibility of Kalonzo ditching NASA.
The remarks have also send shockwaves within NASA affiliate parties who are now questioning Kalonzo’s loyalty.
On Thursday, ODM leader Raila Odinga assured that Kalonzo is in NASA.
“We have spoken with Kalonzo and he has assured me that he is in NASA to stay,” Raila said.
There have been speculations of discomfort among NASA principals on who should be endorsed to fly the alliance presidential flag in the August 8 polls.
NASA principals have however maintained that they are united and ready to send Jubilee government packing.
Sources say that NASA could name its presidential flag bearer by mid next month.
