Wiper Democratic Movement is set to hold major rallies in Mombasa just days after ODM hosted its 10th anniversary in the region.
According to the Standard, Wiper will be campaigning for Senator Hassan Omar who is set to battle it out with ODM's Hasan Joho for the Mombasa gubernatorial contest.
Analysts believe that the campaign against Joho is a punishment for declaring that Raila Odinga is the right candidate to vie for the presidency under the Cord coalition.
"Our objective is to see a Wiper governor take over Mombasa after the August 2017 election. You can take this to the bank," said Omar during a press briefing at the Royal Court Hotel on Monday.
Over the weekend, Cord affiliate party Ford Kenya deputy leader Bonny Khalwale said that the party will be campaigning for Hassan Omar to oust Joho during the next general election.
In what seems to be a supremacy battle, Siaya Senator James Orengo and Suna east MP Junet Mohammed were also in Mombasa to campaign for Joho and Odinga .
Joho who organized the ODM anniversary celebrations early this month stated that Odinga was the right candidate to steer the Cord coalition to victory.
