Mwingi North MP John Munuve has said that Wiper Party's fortunes in the Lower Eastern region are dwindling.
Speaking on Tuesday, the lawmaker cited Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's recent heckling on Saturday during the burial ceremony of Kitui Senator David Musila's mother.
Musyoka was heckled by mourners who accused the former Vice President of overseeing shambolic party primaries that saw Senator Musila lose the party's ticket to the incumbent governor Julius Malombe.
Musila has since decamped from Wiper, and is set to vie as an independent candidate during the forthcoming polls.
Munuve further cited defections witnessed in Wiper earlier this year by more than nine legislators who moved to the ruling party Jubilee, observing that the party is quickly losing popularity in Ukambani region.
“We announced our position in February and we have not changed. None of us has shown interest in changing their decision over that resolution,” he noted.
Pundits have also argued that infightings within Wiper and the widening rift between Kalonzo and Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama could weaken the party in the region.
