NASA supporters will have to wait longer before Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka is sworn in as the "People's deputy President," says Wiper deputy secretary general Peter Mathuki.
Mathuki said the event could take longer since the party was committed to laying out foundations to realize Kalonzo's 2022 presidential bid.
Kalonzo was meant to take the oath alongside the NASA leader Raila Odinga at Uhuru Park on January 30, an event he snubbed forcing Raila to be sworn alone.
The Wiper leader who as a result has found himself on the receiving end from some of the NASA leaders and supporters, some of who have accused him of betrayal and cowardice has since promised to take the oath at appropriate time.
"The swearing in issue is diversionary, it should not take lots of our time. As a party, we must remain focused on 2022. These other issues become diversionary, people want to make it diversionary for us to lose focus," Mathuki told the Daily Nation on Monday..
Mathuki however maintained that the party was keen on ensuring its leader takes oath but remained non committal on the exact time.
''Of course we know that Kalonzo will be sworn in as "the People’s deputy President after Raila, but what we really look forward to is for him to be sworn in as the President of Kenya in 2022,'' Mathuki noted.
Odinga's inauguration was administered by High Court advocate and Ruaraka MP Tom Kajwang' in the presence of Siaya senator James Orengo and NASA's strategist Miguna Miguna.
