Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka wants governors across the county to focus on development.
Addressing residents at Mbuvo trading center in Machakos on Wednesday, Musyoka said the idea of devolution was to bring services closer to the people.
The former Vice President said that devolution should be used to improve the lives of the people.
“I want to tell our governors to use their offices to spearhead development,” he said.
Musyoka noted that devolution will improve the living standards of the people only if they are provided with enough resources.
“We maintain that the national government must increase the allocations to counties so as to achieve development,” he emphasised.
The former VP alleged that Jubilee government is not for devolution and has hindered the process of allocating more funds to counties.
Musyoka said that Jubilee government is keen to frustrate devolution but said the opposition will not allow that.
“We want to change our laws so as to protect devolution which is at risk of collapsing,” he said.
The former VP at the same time appealed to leaders in the county to work together. He added that development would be achieved if governors work well with other leaders.
He said that continued wrangles among leaders in several counties are a threat to devolution adding that Kenyans would suffer if devolution fails.
