The resignation of former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar as Wiper secretary general has not left a power vacuum in the political outfit, leaders allied to Kalonzo Musyoka have said. Led by acting Wiper assistant secretary Peter Mathuki, the politicians said Omar opted to leave the post after failing to deliver victory in Mombasa during the August 8 general election.Mathuki said Omar has enough reasons to resign after failing to ensure the party clinched elective seats in Mombasa. Mathuki also warned State officers against campaigning for any side during the repeat presidential election.“We shall now be watching carefully for any State officers’ involvement and any possible use of State resources in the campaigns and will move to court to seek disqualification of those who will break these laws,” said Mathuki, as quoted by Baraka FM. Omar’s resignation is continuing to attract mixed reactions from members of different political factions. Omar, who lost to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho, has said he will not support NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s campaigns.
