Makueni Member of Parliament Dan Maanzo has thrown his weight behind the unity pact between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
In an interview on Radio Citizen Sunday, the Wiper Democratic Party (WDM) lawmaker termed the move as a stepping stone as the nation matches towards national cohesion.
"The move is good for the nation. Its a good impression from the two leaders and I hope it achieves its intended purpose and results to national unity," said Maanzo.
Coming at a time when a section of political leaders, mostly from the opposition, have decried political domination and electoral injustices, Maanzo stressed on the need for the unity campaign to culminate into a referendum.
He maintained that its only through a constitutional amendment that the nation can overcome its current political shortcomings, including political injustices.
"Their deal should also be used to solve our electoral and leadership shortcomings. Therefore, they should consider crafting frameworks that will see the nation head for a referendum to address the issues troubling Kenyans," he added.
The pact has, however, been opposed by the Wiper party boss Kalonzo Musyoka who claims that he was never involved in the meeting preceding the same, despite sitting in the NASA summit.
Also opposed to the newfound relationship are his Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya counterparts Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula, with the trio championing for another inclusive and structured dialogue.
