A section of Wiper MPs has dismissed opinion polls showing that Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord) Leader Raila Amolo Odinga is the best candidate that the National Super Alliance (NASA) can front to battle it out with President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
MPs Charles Nyamai (Kitui Rural) and Makali Mulu (Kitui Central) have rubbished the polls, terming them biased and “cooked.”
Speaking to nation journalists separately, the leaders said that the polls are aimed at manipulating the committee tasked with picking the alliance flag bearer ahead of the next general polls.
Nyamai said that the polls are being used to give Raila the ticket to become the opposition’s flag bearer, which they are not going to take lying low.
According to Nyamai, the reality on the ground is different from what the poll reflected about the principals of NASA.
“We read a lot of political mischief in this poll because it doesn’t reflect the reality on the ground and every NASA supporter knows an Odinga-led ticket cannot deliver victory for the Opposition,” Mr Nyamai said, as quoted by the local daily.
On his part, Makali said that the figures have been exaggerated and inconsistent. “From face value, these figures do not add up. The huge disparity between Mr Odinga and Mr Musyoka’s ratings contradict the findings per region,” said Dr Makali.
The poll indicated that Raila was the most preferred NASA flag bearer at 63% rating followed by Kalonzo with 13.1%. ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi came third with 12.3% while Ford Kenya Senator Moses Wetangula was fourth with 2.2%.
