Kalonzo’s political vessel is under siege at the coast. There is confusion sparked by party Secretary General and Mombasa gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Omar. The unsettled party is risking giving the people’s Sultan Ali Hassan Joho a second term as governor 001.

The nominations were scheduled for Saturday 18, but now Wiper supporters will wait more to know who will face the incumbent Governor Joho. The postponement was fueled by Omar’s withdrawal and later rejoining the race. This forced the party to postpone the most anticipated event forcing delegates to cancel their trip to Nairobi.

According to the Star, coastal outspoken senator had planned to defend his seat but changed his mind. His competitor is Nyali Member of Parliament and Wiper national treasurer Hezron Awiti.

“But again, when in the evening it was reported he is still in the race, it was too late to call in delegates hence the postponement,” an insider said as quoted by the Star.

Omar’s move has worsened the already frosty relationship with Awiti who the party wants to partner so that they oust Joho.

“I’m giving the Election Board until Tuesday to make a decision about nomination or I will make a major declaration,” said Awiti.
