Machakos governor Alfred Mutua has asked Wiper Party to brace itself for a bruising battle for the control of Ukambani region politics ahead of the August polls.
Speaking on Saturday at the Machakos People's Park, the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) Party leader said Wiper Party's domination in the region had come to an end, urging the party to pave way for MCC.
The governor further noted that the recent fallout witnessed within Wiper Party is a clear indication that the outfit is quickly losing popularity in Ukambani.
"You have seen some of its top leaders including Senators Johnson Muthama and David Musila bolting out of the party. It shows the party's fortunes are dwindling," he said.
"A fish starts rotting from the head.Wiper leadership is rotten and that's why it cannot get aspirants in many parts of Ukambani. Its leaders cannot even agree on whom to run for the seat of governor in some counties," he added.
Mutua is set to defend his seat on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Party ticket, and will face off with Wiper's Wavinya Ndeti.
Ndeti trounced Deputy Governor Bernard Kiala during the just concluded Wiper Party primaries to win the party's ticket.
