Wiper aspirants and supporters were left in a state of confusion after officials taking charge of nominations disappeared with results, Star Reports.
Anxiety and confusion rocked Kitui Multipurpose Hall on Wednesday, where results for the gubernatorial and Senator Hopefuls were being tallied after officials from the top refused to appear.
The members of the party questioned why returning officer Joseph Mutinda had gone missing before the results were announced.
A section of Dr.Governor Julius Malombe called upon former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, also Wiper Party boss, to intervene into the matter as soon as possible.
The angry supporters, who were led by Kitui county KNCCI chairman Duncan Singi, expressed their dissatisfaction, arguing that the disappearance of the officer was sending an unexpected message.
“The people of Kitui have gone to the polls and have made their decision. We want Kalonzo to ensure the results announced reflect the residents wish,” Singi said.
The local daily also reports that polls officials in Kitui East, Kitui South, Kitui West also went missing with the results. Mutinda, however, said that he wanted to validate the outcome before releasing them, adding that there will be no changes in the outcome as alleged .
“The elections board is operating on a shoestring budget, resulting in logistical challenges. I want to assure you that results will be announced to the public once they are delivered. There will be no alterations,” Mutinda said.
