The Wiper Democratic Movement Party has once again challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to consider leasing the Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) kits as opposed to buying them.
In a statement sent to newsrooms on Tuesday and signed by Secretary General Hassan Omar, the party argued that leasing of the kits will be cheaper and easier in comparison to buying them through the long process of procurement.
"The Wiper NEC has reaffirmed the position publicly stated by our Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka during the three County tour of Makueni, Taita Taveta and Kajiado. IEBC should lease and not buy technology in the management of the 2017 General Election," the statement read in part.
"This technology alone will cost not more than Sh3.5 billion. Payment of youths will only cost another Sh1 billion. All the logistics will only cost another Sh1 billion. After all this is done, the owners will go with their technology and are only going to ask for payment after they have delivered.”
The party further argues that there are several reputable global companies that can be willing to lease the kits, including tech giant Samsung and IBM.
