Mutula Junior argues that the Wafula Chebukati led commission is too weak to conduct another general election.

In an interview with a local daily on Wednesday, the Wiper senator supported calls for the disbandment of the electoral commission.

He claimed that there is rot at the commission, adding that Kenyans no longer have confidence in the polls agency.

“The current IEBC cannot be trusted to oversee an election and as such it must be overhauled and fresh people appointed or recruited to take up positions,” he said.

The senator said that Monday’s resignation of three IEBC commissioner's paints a weak and divided commission.

He said that for the country to have credible 2022 general election, the current IEBC has to be kicked out.

A section of politician's and Kenyans continue to react on the troubles at the IEBC with the majority calling for Chebukati’s resignation.

On Monday, IEBC vice chairperson Connie  Nkatha Maina, commissioner's Paul Kurgat, and Margaret Mwachanya resigned.

The commissioner's accused chairman Wafula Chebukati of failing to provide leadership at the commission.
