Wiper Party has challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta to suspend former Health Cabinet Secretary James Macharia and Principal Secretary Nicholas Muraguri over their alleged involvement in the loss of about Sh5.2 billion in the ministry.
Macharia is now the minister of Transport.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday after holding the party's NEC meeting, Wiper said the two senior government officials must step aside to pave way for serious investigations into the Afya House scandal, accusing the Jubilee government of laxity in the fight against corruption.
"Why are the former Cabinet Secretary for Health James Macharia (now Transport CS), and current Principal Secretary, Dr Nicholas Muraguri, still in office despite the recent revelations about the massive fraud that appears to have taken place under their watch?" posed part of a press statement released by Wiper.
"Wiper Democratic Movement-Kenya demands that the duo be suspended with immediate effect and investigations launched to determine their culpability, or otherwise, in the scam," the statement added.
The Afya House scandal is one of the latest major corruption scams that has rocked the Jubilee administration.
