An MP has allayed fears that Wiper Democratic Movement will collapse following Machakos Senator Johnston Muthama’s departure from the party.Kibwezi East MP Jessica Mbalu said one member’s departure from Wiper will not shake the opposition party.“We respect his decision to leave and we wish him well,” Mbalu said on Wednesday during a roadshow in Kibwezi town to thank Wiper supporters for conducting peaceful nominations.“The party won’t collapse as some people say. Wiper has members determined to keep it strong.”Muthama officially announced his departure from Wiper on Monday after accusing National Super Alliance Pentagon member Kalonzo Musyoka of running the party in a dictatorial way.He particularly accused the former vice president of handpicking aspirants during the party’s recent nomination and issuing them with certificates. It is said Muthama was angered by Kalonzo’s decision to front former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti for the post of governor in Machakos County.Media reports show Muthama had wanted county deputy governor Bernard Kiala to take on Governor Alfred Mutua who left Wiper and formed Maendeleo Chap Chap party.Muthama and Mutua have had a frosty relation since 2013 when they were elected.Reports also indicate Muthama was unhappy with Kalonzo’s support for Kitui Governor Julius Malombe against Senator David Musila.Musila was defeated by Malombe during Wiper party nominations for the seat of governor.
