Suspected witches smeared blood in a water spring, leaving the residents wondering.
The incident happened on Saturday night in Boige village, South Mugirango in Kisii County.
A witness said she had gone to fetch water at the water spring on Sunday morning when she found blood smeared all over.
“I went to the water spring with my daughter to fetch water early in the morning. We were shocked to see blood smeared all over and we run away to alert other residents,” said Joan Bosire.
Residents arrived at the scene and found blood, human hair, and an abandoned knife.
“We are condemning people engaging in witchcraft. Water sources must be respected. We are not going to hesitate to lynch witches in the area,” said Widen Borura.
Area elders led by Amos Nyamora cursed the witches saying their days are numbered and they will be caught and be lynched.
“Witchcraft is not accepted in the community. Anyone who will be found practicing it will have to carry his or her own cross. It is time witches to repent and change their bad ways,” said Nyamora.
